Formatting Content
Formatting Content
The display of each page's content is determined by several factors.
Its layout (the juxtaposition of assorted content blocks - including navigation areas, fixed visual elements, and editable content areas) is predetermined by the page template.
Within each page, its content formatting is determined by the administrator. Within distinct editable content areas, the administrator specifies how content displays by placing it into simple containers called pods.
With this CMS, there are three levels of formatting content on a given page: basic, simple and complex.
Basic Formatting
Automatically formats text according to predetermined punctuation rules. It allows ready formatting/display of:
- line breaks
- email address links
- URL links
- bulleted or numbered lists
- horizontal dividers
Simple Formatting
Utilizes generated HTML or pseudo-HTML code that is inserted (via copy/paste) into the text areas of the pod. Users with HTML knowledge may find it easier to apply HTML code without the use of the provided code generators. Code generation applies to:
- images (with optional caption and alignment)
- files
- simple html (e.g. <b>bold</b>, <i>italic</i>)
- inline text styles (e.g., "note", "callout")
- email links from text (e.g., techsupport@teamddm.com)
- URL links from text (e.g., www.teamddm.com)
Complex Formatting
Utilizes a combination of multiple sequential pods of varying types to display a nicely formatted page. It is referenced as complex because it requires the administrator to have a solid understanding of how the pods and pod types are used and can relate to each other.
There are typically several ways to arrange pod combinations in order to achieve your goal. Experimentation will help identify the combination that works best for you.
